How much is the NYS Clean Heat rebate in New York State?

For a whole-home air-source heat pump in a single-family home, NYS Clean Heat pays $7,000 at the standard rate from every participating utility, and $12,000 in the Weatherized Tier from Central Hudson, NYSEG, RG&E, National Grid, and Orange & Rockland ($10,000 from Con Edison). Rates took effect September 1, 2026. Ground-source heat pumps pay more, and Long Island's separate PSEG program pays $4,000–$7,500 by income.

Can electrical contractors get NYS energy rebates?

Yes — four ways. Electrical contractors can (1) do the panel, circuit, and service work on heat pump jobs run by participating HVAC installers, with no enrollment needed; (2) enroll as NYS Clean Heat Participating Contractors and submit incentive applications themselves; (3) claim NYSERDA EmPower+ incentives for panel upgrades (up to $4,000–$5,000) and wiring upgrades (up to $2,500) on income-qualified homes; and (4) enroll in NYSERDA's Appliance Upgrade Program, which pays for panel and wiring work tied to appliance installs.

Who runs the NYS Clean Heat program?

NYS Clean Heat is a statewide New York program administered by the state's electric utilities with NYSERDA. Contractors enroll once through the statewide portal at cleanheat.ny.gov/contractors, with a participation agreement for each utility territory where they work. The program is administered on the utilities' behalf by ICF (help desk: nyscleanheat@icf.com, 844-212-7823).

Statewide: Every NYS Region, Every Participating Electric Utility

Clean Heat follows the electric utility, not the county line. Wherever your trucks run in New York State, there is a participating utility and a rebate your customers are leaving on the table.

The 4 doors in for electricians

Partner with participating HVAC installers (no enrollment), enroll as a Participating Contractor, EmPower+ panel & wiring work, and the Appliance Upgrade Program. Two of the four need zero heat pump experience.

    Enrollment, step by step

Agreement per utility territory + application + W-9 + license + insurance certificate, submitted through the statewide portal. Approved per territory AND per contractor type — the guide lists exactly what to upload.

    One job, start to paid

Identify the customer's electric utility → Manual J load calculation → NEEP-listed equipment → pick the tier → photograph everything before and after → submit in the portal → get paid. 12 steps, in order.

    The mistakes that bounce applications

Equipment not on the NEEP list. A load calc that doesn't match the install. Enrolled in the wrong territory. Missing before-photos. The guide covers all six — so your first application isn't one of them.

The rebate is only half the job

Homeowners across NYS ask Google and ChatGPT 'how much is the heat pump rebate near me' every night — and call the contractor whose website explains the money. Bodhi's Electrify program builds that for you: rebate pages for your utility territory, AI search visibility so ChatGPT names you, and follow-up that answers every lead in under a minute. $150 to start, from $349/month, month-to-month. One booked heat pump job pays for a year of it.

Yes. Panel upgrades, service upgrades, circuits, and wiring are electrical work, and the state pays for them through Clean Heat projects, EmPower+, and the Appliance Upgrade Program. The guide's Part 2 maps all four entry points, including the two that need no heat pump work at all.

No — only the territories where you actually submit applications. Enrollment is one portal, one application, with a participation agreement per territory.

The paperwork itself is a single sitting if your license, W-9, and insurance certificate are ready. Approval comes back per utility by email. The guide's checklist (Part 7) lists every document so you only sit down once.

Amounts are set by the utilities and NYSERDA and do get updated — that's why the guide links the official Contractor Toolkit (cleanheat.ny.gov/contractors) and tells you to confirm your job's exact category amount in the current Program Manual before quoting.
