The FAQ Schema Checklist That Turns Your Pages Into Answer Sources

FAQ schema is the highest-leverage hour of technical work available to a local business site. It costs nothing, takes minutes per page, and directly feeds the systems generating AI answers.

Rule One: The Questions Must Be Real

Use questions your customers actually ask, phrased the way they ask them. Pull them from your inbox, your call logs, and the People Also Ask box. Invented questions produce invented relevance.

Rule Two: The Answer Must Appear on the Page

Schema must mirror visible content. Marking up answers that do not appear in the rendered page violates guidelines and can get structured data ignored site-wide.

Rule Three: Keep Answers Between 40 and 90 Words

Short enough to be lifted whole, long enough to be substantive. Answers over roughly 120 words get truncated or skipped.

Rule Four: One FAQ Block Per Page, Six Questions Max

Multiple competing FAQPage blocks confuse parsers. Six focused questions outperform fifteen shallow ones.

Rule Five: Make Questions Unique Across the Site

The same six questions repeated on forty pages signals templating. Tailor them to each page's service and location.

Rule Six: Validate After Every Deploy

Run the page through a structured data validator after each release. Schema silently breaks during redesigns more often than anything else on this list.
