Why Your Service Area Pages Don't Rank (And the Template That Fixes Them)

Nearly every local business we audit has a folder of service-area pages that read identically except for the town name. They rarely rank, and worse, they can dilute the pages that would have.

Google Is Grading Local Evidence, Not Local Keywords

Repeating "Poughkeepsie" eleven times does not prove you serve Poughkeepsie. Photos from a job on a Poughkeepsie street, a review from a Poughkeepsie homeowner, and a note about the permit process in that municipality do.

    The Page Structure That Works

Open with a single H1 naming the service and the town. Follow with a short paragraph on why that service matters in that specific area — housing stock age, weather, regulations, commute patterns. Add two or three real project summaries. Include three town-specific FAQs. Close with one clear call to action.

    Aim for Depth, Not Volume

Six genuinely local pages will outperform sixty templated ones. Build pages only for towns where you actually work and can show evidence. Expand as your project history expands.

Each town page should link up to its parent service page and sideways to two neighboring towns. That structure tells search engines which page is the authority and which are the local expressions of it.

    Measure the Right Signal

Track calls and form fills by page, not just rankings. A town page that ranks fifth but converts at eight percent is worth more than one that ranks second and converts at one percent.
